ABC Plans AMC, OLTL Crossovers

Beginning November 17, ABC will once again feature a series of crossovers to help bolster its daytime lineup.

One Life to Live's Brock Cuchna (Paul Cramer) will leave Llanview and visit Pine Valley, where his character shares a past with All My Children newcomer Alexa Havin (Babe Chandler). The two performers will crossover from show to show for a short period of time.

It's been a while since ABC delved into the world of crossovers. In 2000, Linda Dano (Rae Cummings) took her One Life to Live character soap-hopping through each of the four ABC soaps. The stop included an extended stay in Pine Valley in which Rae learned that she was the daughter of Myrtle Fargate and a circus performer.

In 2001, All My Children borrowed a character from General Hospital. The phenomenally popular and presumed dead Anna Devane arrived in town with amnesia. Anna, played by Emmy winner Finola Hughes, appeared on General Hospital from 1985 to 1992, remained on AMC for two years, but staunch GH fans blasted the program for stealing "their" character.

Meanwhile, General Hospital took on actress Robin Christopher (Skye Chandler), who had previously been appearing on One Life to Live. Christopher's character debuted on All My Children in the 1980s.

Other crossovers have taken place over the years, but most fans viewed the recent crossovers as shameless publicity stunts that served no purpose other than trying to get viewers to watch soaps that they usually didn't watch.
